R400K Chipezeze: Downs Have Quality, But....

Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has now racked up R400 000 after winning the Carling Knockout Man of the Match for a fourth game in a row.

The Limpopo side bagged their first-ever trophy in their debut season in the top-flight after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final on Saturday night.

The Magesi shot-stopper paid a tribute to the supporters

"First of all, I just want to thank the supporters. Like I said in the beginning of the tournament, they play an important role to what we're doing. We're just here to entertain them and as you can see, they are all smiling, the stadium was buzzing," Chipezeze said on SuperSport TV.

"We have people from Limpopo driving from 5 am to come and witness us and history. I'm just grateful to them for the support they are giving me.

"We had a game plan and we executed it very well. We conceded a soft goal in the first half but we just kept it calm. We knew we were gonna create chances and we took them."

When pressed further on the tactics, he added, "We knew they've got six players from Bafana Bafana, quality players. They've got [Lucas] Ribeiro, [Marcelo] Allende, [Peter] Shalulile, it's a lot. But we just told ourselves that it's a once off game, anything can happen. We have to just got there and make history.

"Keep the low block for as long as we can, because they are under pressure you know. We came to the game knowing we're the underdogs and no one expected us to win to be quite frank but credit must go the boys for the hard work throughout the week.

"The coach has been drilling us and sometimes you feel like giving up but these are the results and it paid off today."
