How Chiefs Are Planning For Life After Khune

How Chiefs Are Planning For Life After Khune

Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels that the return of Rainer Dinkelacker is a sign that Amakhosi are already planning for life after Itumeleng Khune, who is heading into his final season as a professional.

Amakhosi announced that Khune has signed a one-year contract at Naturena, which will be his last as a player, before he takes up a role, as the club confirmed, that he will be transitioning into a new coaching and ambassadorial role, working with the marketing division.

Dinkelacker, who has returned to Chiefs as a strategic advisor in the goalkeeping department, worked at Amakhosi for a number of years and has been praised for the work he particularly did with the distribution skills of Khune and Rowen Fernandez. Having worked so well with Amakhosi goalkeepers in the past, Tsotetsi has a feeling that this is the club's way of starting to plan for life after Khune, who made a big contribution since making his debut for the club in 2007.

The Soweto giants have Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma in the goalkeeping department, as well as youngster Karabo Molefe, who is seen as one of the future talents of the club.

"I do believe they do have a plan for life after Khune, seeing that they brought back Rainer, who worked with Chiefs previously for quite some time. I worked with him before and he is one of the best goalkeeper coaches. Him coming back shows that the team has a plan to help the goalkeeping department, so he will help the goalkeeper coaches who are there to improve, with the experience he has," Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

"He will help them develop from the juniors, so that they can have another goalkeeper like Khune, Rowen (Fernandez) and Brian (Baloyi). To be honest, I think the team has a plan because they can see that Khune's time is coming to an end as a player. By that time, they will probably have a young player coming in, learning and seeing how they do things."
