Dladla: How Ditlhokwe Needs To Step Up

Kaizer Chiefs made good signings at the start of the current season which included players like Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Edson Castillo, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Pule Mmodi and Tebogo Potsane to strengthen the team.

In a one on one interview with Soccer Laduma, Josta Dladla stated that although Msimango and Ditlhokwe have played very well together, he wants the latter to step up and be more vocal to control their defence. This Dladla believes will lead to results becoming more consistent.

Dladla added that the signing of Venezuelan player Castillo has been the best so far for Amakhosi this season.

"As for signings I would say Edson (Castillo) has been excellent. I think he is not yet 100% there but he has shown what kind of player he is. I think there is still more to his work," Dladla told the Siya crew.

"The other good signings are the two defenders. Given (Msimango) and Thatayaone (Ditlhokwe). They started pretty well but I think they lack that commanding voice at the back.

"I think Ditlhokwe is older than Msimango so he should take charge and control the whole back five including the goalkeeper. He has to step up and shout instructions to the back line.

"The best central defenders are vocal. Look at Neil Tovey or Lucas Radebe. They were vocal and they helped the team a lot. Ditlhokwe has to be vocal. Yes, Itu (Khune) is back now and can help with that but it starts with the central defenders.

"You know that strikers win you games but defenders win you leagues. They have to step up and start talking to the whole team and take charge. If they can do that they will turn the results around my brother," the former Bafana Bafana striker concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs beat Moroka Swallows in the Soweto Derby 1-0 away from home on Sunday, playing without Ditlhokwe who picked up an injury with Botswana during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers last week. Msimango and Edmilson Dove started in central defence while Bruce Bvuma started as the goalkeeper.
