When Kaizer Chiefs Last Won The League...

Kaizer Chiefs are now a very different team from when they last won a trophy five years ago, and their wait for the end of their longest ever trophy drought continues…

Take a trip down memory lane to when Chiefs last lifted a trophy in the gallery above!

Chiefs last won a title back in May 2015 under Stuart Baxter as they blew away the competition in a record-breaking Absa Premiership campaign that saw them win it almost exactly five years ago today on April 22 2015.

Of the 11 players that started the win over Polokwane in 2015 that clinched the title, just Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande and Erick Mathoho remain, with the other eight players – as well as head coach, Stuart Baxter – having moved on elsewhere.

Meanwhile, when you look at the team that started against Chippa in the 2-0 win on May 9, nine of the starting XI – excluding Parker and Katsande – have since left, with Maluleka the only player on the bench that day who is still an Amakhosi player.

Key players in the 2014/15 season such as Tefu Mashamaite, Mandla Masango, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and many others all left in the years that followed their last triumph, and it would appear that they have not been able to replace them.

Mashamaite and Siboniso Gaxa played every league game over the course of that campaign, while Tsepo Masilela and 'Yeye' were not behind them with 28 appearances each.

Looking back, of the 18 players who played 300+ league minutes, just Parker, Katsande, Maluleka and Itumeleng Khune remain - others now find themselves overseas, elsewhere in the Premier Soccer League or clubless.

Chiefs could, of course, end that drought this season as they find themselves four points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns with eight games to go, however they have played on more game than their title rivals, and it remains to be seen when football will resume due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Which player from the 2014/15 season do you miss the most at Chiefs?
