'Shabba' has always been cagey about whether he has retired from the beautiful game or not, despite the fact that he has not played professionally for over three years.

The dreadlocked midfielder who turns 40 in September was last on the books of AmaZulu in 2021.

Not one to rest on his laurels, the Phiri-born star has been working hard off the field as he continues to extend his reach through a number of ambassadorial roles with renowned brands across the world.

Speaking to the Siya crew at Nedbank's Ya Rona house, where he is an official ambassador, Shabba gave a glimpse of what his life entails after football.

"To continue working with the brands, I'm enjoying the association and I see value in that," he told the Siya crew.

"I'm currently working with four or five brands now. So it's a great opportunity. There's growth in that space, there's longevity as well. And of course I won't be lost to football. I owe football a lot. Football gave me everything and I'll be forever grateful.

"I'm more involved in grassroots football through my foundation with a football tournament that runs annually between June and July. So that's the space that I enjoy, but also it is it's a space where I want to equip myself with academic knowledge. You know, I do have vast experience with practical stuff, so I also need a bit of academic paper as well. I think it's a stamp of approval.

"And I do also consider getting the coaching badges just to have an in-depth knowledge and impart that knowledge from that perspective to the youth," he said.
