What Maponyane Finds 'Bizarre' About Ntseki Appointment

Kaizer Chiefs legend Marks Maponyane has given his thoughts on the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as the new head coach.

Ntseki was surprisingly given the responsibility to lead Chiefs in a coaching capacity following the restructuring of the technical team, that saw Arthur Zwane demoted to being the assistant coach, along with Dillon Sheppard, who retained his position.

There has been a lot of criticism on Ntseki that he lacks experience in coaching a PSL side, despite having already been in charge of Bafana Bafana.

Maponyane says everybody deserves to be given a chance and finds it "bizarre" for people to start criticizing Ntseki before he even begins.

"My comment is very simple that everybody deserves a chance and he has been with the team. Yes, one can say in a position of being a technical director and a lot will say, 'Ja but no pedigree when it comes to a PSL responsibility, being a top coach and being in charge of a PSL side'," Maponyane explained his view on eNCA.

"But I always believe that in life we need to give people a chance and this is his chance and the only (thing) that I find very bizarre is when anyone is given a chance (then) everyone starts criticising.

"Why not wait and see what will happen? I believe everyone deserves a chance, it's up to you to run with it or to ruin it," he said.

Chiefs were strongly linked with the hiring of former Yanga head coach Nasreddine Nabi before they settled for Ntseki after talks between the two parties broke down.

Maponyane suggested that expectations were raised high on Nabi becoming successful at Amakhosi based on reputation, but he adds that should not be the main factor in judging a coach.

The all-time leading goal-scorer for the Glamour Boys also believes his former side should keep Ntseki depending on whether the team is improving or not under his reign.

"Pending whether the team is improving or not, (we) always want to hear a new voice and maybe he'll be the new voice that the players will be hearing," Maponyane continued.

"But don't always think this coach is going to to make it because he's Nabi, he's from Simba or something. The main thing is how do you know he's gonna win it? Is it because of reputation?

"So let us also not lean too much on reputation, give Molefi a chance and I know the same people are now, I'm putting my head on the block, a lot of people will say, if he wins his first trophy, 'Ja but this was just MTN8' just as an example. There will always be that, 'Ja, this is not (good enough) we want now the league' but everyone needs to be given a chance," he insisted.
