A newly signed AmaZulu defender is unlikely to face his former club Kaizer Chiefs, when the two sides face off this weekend, and insiders have revealed why.
Earlier this month, Chiefs confirmed parting ways with Sibusiso Mabiliso by mutual consent, terminating the contract of the player.
The defender has since re-joined AmaZulu where he will compete for the left back position in coach Brandon Truter's team, but with the Durban-based side set to face Amakhosi on Saturday, the 23-year-old is understood to have fitness concerns, according to insiders.
"Sibusiso Mabiliso is doubtful for the match against his former team Kaizer Chiefs due to fitness concerns. He is behind the rest of the guys by three to four weeks, due to him arriving late and didn't have a pre-season with the team. He started training with the group two days before the team travelled to Cape Town for their MTN8 semi-final match against Cape Town City last weekend and he still has some catch up work to do to regain his fitness," said the source.
"But the boy is working hard in training and aiming to return to full fitness and to make the team in the coming matches. He is a humble boy who is dedicated to his job, and it is just unfortunate that he didn't get much game-time at his previous club," the source added.
