Are Chiefs Divided On Nabi?

Are Chiefs Divided On Nabi?

With Kaizer Chiefs experiencing mixed fortunes at Amakhosi, news reaching the Siya crew is that there conflicting opinions on the future of head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.

According to Siya sources, after the team's defeat to Golden Arrows on Sunday, a meeting was held to discuss Nabi's future and club officials were split on the decision regarding his tenure and whether to continue with the Tunisian-born coach.

"There was a meeting just like after every game to analyse what went wrong against Golden Arrows but the issue of the coach was then discussed. Yes, there were two groups of minds. One saying they should give him games to prove himself before the end of the season and if he fails in those games then they part ways. While the other side still believes that he needs time to turn the fortunes around. That side believes he has brought some positivity to the team," a source revealed to the Siya crew.

Sources have suggested that the club management and board are divided on a plan of action for the second half of the season.

"They didn't agree on one thing. Others are not happy and want him gone while others feel it's too early to judge him. It's tough to decide what decision or move to take," the source added.

Having played 13 league matches so far, the Glamour Boys sit in sixth place with five wins.

Indications are that Nabi's reputation is currently working in his favour, making it harder for the club to dismiss him outright.

"You know Nabi's situation is like that of Steve Komphela where there is hope while time is running out. You remember Steve stayed for three seasons and the club was hoping for the best every season? That's where we stand now. With the reputation that Nabi had when he joined the club it's hard to just fire him like that because it will seem like he wasn't given enough time to chance things with a team that finished 10th last season and they are in the top eight at this point of the season. So that's why he is still hanging on there," the source said.

The Siya crew reached out to Chiefs for comment, with no response received at the time of publishing.
