Chiefs To Fine Players For Losing?

Chiefs To Fine Players For Losing?

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 26: Wandile Duba of Kaizer Chiefs missing a scoring opportunity during the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Marumo Gallants FC

Tensions are reportedly high at Kaizer Chiefs following their 2-1 defeat to Marumo Gallants on Saturday, as the Siya crew understands that both the management and technical team are expressing dissatisfaction with the performance.

Siya sources close to the club have now indicated that Amakhosi are expected to take measures against certain matchday squad players for what insiders perceive to be a lack of focus, commitment, and fighting spirit during the game.

"You know it's a known factor that everyone was disappointed with that loss. It's not just about the loss but the way the team lost the game. That's why it's believed that they took a decision to punish the players by fining them. Normally there is a game bonus whether you win or draw but this time around each player who was in the matchday squad will apparently have his salary deducted as part of the fine. This is not the first time the team is doing this. They have done it in the past and they believe it works," the Siya source stated.

Interestingly, the funds collected from the fines are set to be donated to charity, with the players given the opportunity to select the charitable organization to benefit, according to a second insider.

"The money is believed to go for a good cause. It will go to a charity. The players will choose which charity. This is part of motivation to the players that they should be focused in the remaining games so that the team can avoid the same scenario like last season where they finished outside the top eight. It's also to improve their commitment and dedication ahead of the two Soweto derbies in the league and the Nedbank Cup finals," the second insider stated.

Amakhosi currently sit in ninth position on the Betway Premiership table with 30 points and five games remaining. However, eighth placed Chippa United are ahead on goal difference and have two matches in hand in the race for the MTN8 spot.
Chiefs' next challenge is the highly-anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon, May 3, at FNB Stadium.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Kaizer Chiefs for comment on the reported disciplinary measures, but no response was available at the time of publishing.
