'Chiefs Should Invest In Velebayi & 'Sell Him To Europe'

Kaizer Chiefs are interested in signing Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi, but the Mother City side is not satisfied with the offer from Amakhosi.

Spurs are looking for a fee between R8 million to R12.5 million to let the 21-year-old South African midfielder go.

Former Chiefs defender Thabang Rooi believes his former club should increase their offer to secure Velebayi, stating that the player would add a different dimension to the squad. In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Rooi emphasized that despite the Glamour Boys already having other wingers, Velebayi brings something unique to the team.

"I think he is a winger they really need at the team this season. He has something different from the other wingers we have currently. I feel like Chiefs should increase the offer and get him. They really need to work on their finances and get this young man. The advantage is that he is still young and they can sell him for big money in the future. He can even go to Europe after playing well for Chiefs. So, yes, I think they should increase the offer they are giving to Spurs," Rooi told the Siya crew.

Rooi further added that Velebayi's skills and speed would bring a new dimension to Chiefs' attack. Currently, Chiefs have players like Mfundo Vilakazi, Ashley Du Preez, Tebogo Pontsane, and newly signed Gaston Sirino who can play in the same position as Velebayi.

"He is quick and skilful as well. He can control that right hand side of attack and can as well move to the left and cut inside. If you look at the other wingers like Mfundo or Sirino, they are not as fast as he is. So, I think he can fit in very well in the squad. And you know that we need competition as well to balance the team. It will be good to have him and he will fit in very well in the setup," Rooi concluded.

Velebayi was part of the South Africa squad in the COSAFA Cup tournament led by coach Helman Mkhalele this year.
