Kaizer Chiefs veteran Itumeleng Khune has opened up on the club’s decision to part ways with promising midfielder Sabelo Radebe, following the youngster’s loan stint at Richards Bay during the 2024/25 season.

Radebe, affectionately known as “Bibo,” was released after returning to Naturena, bringing an end to his time at a club where he had once been tipped for a big future. Now a free agent, the 25-year-old faces the difficult task of restarting his career — but according to Khune, the talent is undoubtedly there.
“He’s got a lot of potential,” Khune told Soccer Laduma. “I remember I used to tease him when he was still with the first team. He’d go play for the DDC team and win Man of the Match awards back to back. And then I’d say, ‘But why are you not dishing out the same performance when you’re with us in the first team?’”

Khune said it came down to adapting to a tougher environment.
“He started showing glimpses of what he can do, but the guys he was competing with were simply better. That’s the reality. He made the right call by going on loan, even though it didn’t work out in the end.”
Despite the disappointment, Khune believes Radebe deserves a second chance.
“He’s such a great player. If another team gives him a proper opportunity, I know he’ll grab it with both hands.”
