Mashamaite: Chiefs' Biggest Test, Downs Clash Looms

Kaizer Chiefs will face their biggest test yet under new coach Nasreddine Nabi when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership this weekend.

Before taking on Sundowns, the Soweto giants are set to face AmaZulu in Durban on Wednesday evening and then they will have a few days before coming face to face with arguably the most dangerous team in the Premiership right now.

After a slow start in the MTN8, which saw them struggling to find the back of the net, Sundowns are in sublime form in the final third of the pitch, scoring six goals in their first two league matches. Iqraam Rayners has settled in quite well and Lucas Ribeiro Costa is running rings around opposition.

Both Rayners and Costa have found the back of the net twice in as many league matches and they have good support from the likes of Tashreeq Matthews, Themba Zwane, Peter Shalulile and Kobamelo Kodisang, players who are capable of coming on as substitutes to make an impact for the Tshwane giants.

Amakhosi have gone into the market to bolster their defence, signing the likes of Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam. The new look Amakhosi defence will certainly have its work cut out when they face a Sundowns side that looks like it's just warming up under coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

Former Amakhosi defender Tefu Mashamaite has been impressed with the combination of Miguel and Dortley in Chiefs' central defence and has stressed the importance of not having lapses in concentration throughout the 90 minutes.

"I don't think their defence has been tested yet, so this is going to be one of the first few real tests for Chiefs. So far, they have looked a bit solid. I like the combination of Dortley and Miguel. I was looking at Sundowns, they are looking like they are getting back to their old ways, so Chiefs have to be compact and there is no time to switch off against a team like Sundowns. They have to communicate, but North African coaches are strategic and organised against teams like Sundowns. It's going to be an interesting one," Mashamaite said to the Siya crew.
