Chiefs Urged To Go For Lepasa

Chiefs Urged To Go For Lepasa

Zakhele Lepasa is a free agent after leaving Orlando Pirates.

A former Kaizer Chiefs player has explained why he feels Zakhele Lepasa would do well in the gold and black of Amakhosi.

Pirates confirmed the exit of Lepasa last week, declaring him as a free agent after he spent the whole of last season recovering from injury. He did not make a single appearance for the Buccaneers last season.

Lepasa was called up to be part of the South African team for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), but there is a chance he might not join the squad after revealing last week that he still has to think about it. He could prioritise finding a new club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Former Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels Lepasa would add value at Naturena, adding that the player is not a Pirates reject.

“Lepasa is one of the quality strikers and he did well for Pirates, when he was given a chance. He is not a reject from Pirates. He did not get enough game time and sometimes when you are out, you find that the team gels and it’s difficult for you to break into the team after being sidelined with injury. But I see he has recovered and because Chiefs have not been able to get (Khanyisa) Mayo for now, I think Lepasa has something to give. If he can be given a chance at Chiefs, I think he can do well and revive his career,” Tsotetsi said.

“Also, it depends on what type of striker coach Nabi would want. We will have to wait and see.”

Chiefs have struggled upfront during pre-season and the club is believed to be in the market for a striker, with Khanyisa Mayo said to be top of their list.
