Ex-Amakhosi Goalie Explains Why Khune Should Be Chiefs' No.1

Ex-Amakhosi Goalie Explains Why Khune Should Be Chiefs' No.1

Instead of maturing like fine wine, like most of the top goalkeepers around the world, Itumeleng Khune's career has endured a significant decline and a former goalie at Amakhosi has explained why Khune should still be the club's number one.

Despite being handed the captain's armband by coach Arthur Zwane for the 2022/23 season, Khune was a notable absenter when the Soweto giants suffered a 1-0 defeat against Royal AM at the weekend.

Ex-Chiefs William "Cool Cat" Shongwe believes Khune is under pressure but says the Amakhosi management seemingly still has faith in him

"The management are thinking hey we still believe in you, you are still a part of this time, so calm down, your time will come, we still need your presence in the team, our leadership even if it is off the field," Shongwe told the Siya crew.

"Khune is still the main man, he is still a respectable figure to the fans and when you see Khune, you see Chiefs, his word is louder than most.

"There is value in Khune and if he fights and makes the number one his own, there is greater value in having him as number one, not just his playing abilities but leadership as well, if you have the leadership in the field of play it is a big plus."
