Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Cape Town City
Date: 21 April 2021
Venue: FNB Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs' miserable DStv Premiership continued after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Cape Town City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Chiefs were unchanged from their 1-1 draw with Baroka, while City made one change with Mpho Makola coming into the side for Abdul Ajagun.
The visitors had the first opportunity of the match. A misplaced City pass into the area was intercepted by Reeve Frosler straight into the path of Tashreeq Morris six yards out but the Citizens striker missed a golden opportunity as he ballooned the ball over the bar.
Morris made amends for his earlier miss when he gave City the lead in the 21st minute. Terrence Mashego bombed down the left and put an excellent delivery into the box between Erick Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso for Morris to divert into the back of the net on the slide.
Minutes before the break, Manyama's free-kick deflected off the wall and Samir Nurkovic headed the ball into the centre of the box to Siyabonga Ngezana, who controlled the ball on his chest before trying an audacious overhead kick which Peter Leeuwenburgh tipped over the bar.
Five minutes after the interval, Manyama's delivery headed away by Fielies into the path of substitute Kearyn Baccus, whose shot from just outside the small box was brilliantly and bravely blocked by Citizens skipper Thamsanqa Mkhize.
City's lead was then doubled when out of nothing Surprise Ralani's effort took the wickedest of deflections off Mathoho wrongfooting Khune and rolling into the back of the net.
Mashego and Leeuwenburgh then got in the way of another allowing Nurkovic to get a shot away on goal but Fielies was on the line to make the block.
On the hour mark, Thato Mokeke made a bad error when he was dispossessed by Baccus inside his own box. The ball fell to Manyama and he floated it first-time to Nurkovic in the box who missed a gilt-edged opportunity skewing his effort wide when he had much more time than he thought.
Baccus pulled a goal back for Gavin Hunt's side in the 67th minute. Ngezana got the run on his marker down the right and crossed to the back post for an unmarked Baccus to head home.
The Amakhosi were bossing the encounter in the second half and in the 83rd minute Mashiane delivered a beauty of the cross to the back post for Ngezana, whose volley hit the side netting.
Castro had a final chance to equalise in second-half stoppage time, but headed over from Billiat's cross as Jan Olde Riekerink's side came away with the three points.
