Kaizer Chiefs have followed up their public statement on the FIFA ban with a letter to the world football governing body, the Siya crew can reveal.
The Glamour Boys confirmed on Wednesday that the club had received a date for their hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding an appeal to have the two-window sanction on registering players overturned.
It's now understood that Chiefs wrote to FIFA on the same day to seek clarity on the ruling handed down back in February – the club feels the findings were ambiguous.
Amakhosi were punished for the manner in which they handled the transfer of international midfielder 'Dax' when they signed him from Fosa Juniors, an amateur club in his native country of Madagascar in August 2018.
The player was also banned from playing football for a period of four months, which he served to completion by Monday this week and can actually resume playing for Black Leopards, a club he joined at the start of the season from Chiefs.
The Siya crew understands Amakhosi have queried whether their appeal automatically suspends the sanction handed down by FIFA in February.
But according to Article 58.4 of the governing body's statutes: "The appeal shall not have a suspensive effect. The appropriate FIFA body or, alternatively, CAS may order the appeal to have a suspensive effect."
Seem pretty straightforward, but Chiefs – it would appear – are seeking clarity. The hearing at CAS is set for September 8-9.
