Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has hinted that returning midfielder Njabulo Blom could play a crucial role at the club this season, despite missing the Premiership League opener, a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants.
In what could be seen as a warning to captain Yusuf Maart and youngster Samkelo Zwane, who both play in the same position as Blom, but sources have revealed that the intention of the new coach is to foster healthy competition in the midfield.

Insiders at the club have suggested that both Zwane and Maart's positions are secure, even with Blom's return on loan from his MLS side until the end of the season.
"Yes, the coach made those comments about Blom, but it doesn't pose a threat to any players. If you look at how the coach utilizes Maart and Zwane, there could be changes in some games, but the duo of Zwane and Maart will likely be the preferred choice on most occasions. In terms of team selection, these two are safe," a source told the Siya crew.

However, another insider speculated that the players who might be impacted by Blom's presence are Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Edson Castillo, who will be vying for spots alongside Zwane, Blom, and Maart.
"While Samkelo (Zwane) and Yusuf (Maart) might be safe and see regular game-time, the same can't be said for Ox (Mthethwa) and Castillo. With Blom back in the team, it could be challenging for Mthethwa to get much playing time, though Castillo might mostly come in as a substitute. That's where the main changes could occur. The team was even considering loaning Ox out for this season. So, let's wait and see," the source concluded.
Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing.
