Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy believes the club’s current crop of young talent was not only ready for promotion, they were determined to bring meaningful change to the senior team.
Speaking on the back of his elevation from the club’s development structures this season, McCarthy reflected on the shared mindset among the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, and others who rose through the ranks together.
“I feel like ever since the DDC team when all of us came together, it felt like we were going to bring change to the team. Eventually, now we're all promoted together, playing together. I just feel like there's a different type of fire amongst the youngsters,” he told journalists at the Nedbank multipurpose court handover in Springs.

McCarthy’s comments highlight the unity and ambition driving Chiefs’ youth movement, which has been a key focus for the technical team in recent seasons.
The belief in homegrown talent is beginning to pay off, with several academy graduates now featuring regularly in the first team.
“We have it in us to manage and keep the club up there, where it belongs. There's a lot of weight on our shoulders, but we were prepared for that.”
