Who The Player Is:
Teboho Mokoena has gone from SuperSport United academy graduate to becoming the PSL's most expensive South African player in just six years. Not only has the midfielder put in the work to get to his level – but he has adjusted his game to do the 'dirty work' required to succeed at Mamelodi Sundowns.

What Transfermarkt Says:
As things stand Mokoena boasts the title of the PSL's most expensive player with a market value of €2 million (±R40m) according to Transfermarkt. Incredibly, he started out with a market value of €25 000 (±R507 000) aged 19 back in 2016. Multiple junior national team call-ups including a regular Bafana Bafana berth has contributed to Mokoena's rapid rise. He is Sundowns' second most valuable player behind Peter Shalulile.

Player's contract status:
Mamelodi Sundowns signed the Bethlehem-born star from SuperSport United on a four-and-a-half year and half contract in January last year as reported by the Siya crew. He was contracted to Matsatsantsa at the time. His current contract is set to expire in June 2025; however, his deal includes an option for a further year.

Buy-out Clause
Back in 2020, Mokoena signed a long-term contract at Matsatsantsa that would keep him at the club until 2023. His deal at the time included an Olympic buy-out clause had he managed to attract international interest at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His current Mamelodi Sundowns deal is likely to include a similar clause in the event that he manages to attract interest from abroad.

How Much In SA And Where?:
Before Mamelodi Sundowns captured his signature, there was talk of a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs with Orlando Pirates also said to be interested in his services. However, it was the Brazilians who managed to fork out big money to land his signature.

How Much In Europe And Where?:
Back in 2019, Mokoena was being prepared for a European move, with Netherlands and Germany likely destinations, which was confirmed by SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews at the time. There was believed to be interest in his services from Belgium as well.

Ideal Dream Move:
Mokoena has always been thought of as a prospective European player. He has been touted for an overseas move by his teammates and coaches over the last few years. Given his exploits for Sundowns this season, which saw him crowned the DStv Premiership Player of the Season, it will not come as a surprise that European interest will mount in his services.
