Marawa Discusses Liverpool Title Race & New Role

Radio host Robert Marawa has given his thoughts on the title race, with his beloved Liverpool looking to give manager Jurgen Klopp the perfect send off.

Soccer Laduma recently got an opportunity to engage with Marawa on his new role as brand ambassador for the Showmax Premier League package, and why he would want to be at the stadium if Liverpool go into the last match of the season with a chance of winning the title.

As a Liverpool supporter, how do you see this title race playing out with Arsenal and Manchester City, especially with Klopp leaving at the end of the season?

I just think he is going to ride the wave of emotion, support, previous success and the potential trophies. There's the quadruple that's still available to be taken. I think he will ride on that. This EPL is a fairytale and unscripted, but it ends up looking like it's scripted. There were many years of suffering of no trophies and being mocked and ridiculed, but to see the kind of team that Klopp has been able to put together is great. It's sad to be losing him.

How would you celebrate if Liverpool were to win the league?

I think that I would ensure, for the very first time in my life, that I am not watching the game here in South Africa. Final match, whatever it hinges - whether it's a point - I would make means to be there. I would love to know what the atmosphere would be like in the UK on that particular day.

Who is your all-time favourite Liverpool player?

It has to be John Barnes. There's Bruce Grobbelaar who was the goalkeeper. I met him, but John Barnes (is number one).

Do you have a favourite player in the current squad?

I could never look past Mo Salah. I think he gets underrated a lot of the times. He's never there for the major awards, like Ballon d'Or or FIFA Best, but his records and what he has done in equalling, breaking and surpassing those records...he is a modern day Liverpool legend.

Lastly, how does it feel being the brand ambassador for the Showmax Premier League package and what role will you be playing?

The one beautiful thing is what when I had a chat with Showmax, (they) just said we have a blank piece of paper. We can give this thing direction. I then said that I love blank pieces of paper because it's exactly what I was presented with when we were given a show called Soccerzone. It was up to myself and (Mike) Sporo Mangena to craft and put a little meat in the skeleton to say this is how we think it should be and became the phenomenon that it became. Same with Extra Time. When I got to SuperSport, there was no Extra Time and we crafted it to be what it is. There was no Thursday Night Live. We created it and it became what it was. All of those were from a blank piece of paper. So here, they are giving a unique offering that is crazy in my mind. I also feel we don't expose ourselves to some of the (African) superstars that are currently playing in the EPL. We need to try to play that role and bring these players closer to the continent.
