There will have to come a time when coaches and players no longer take the blame for what's happening at Naturena.
While it's true that the coaches and players are the ones who do the business on the pitch, the big bosses at Naturena have not always made the best of decisions over the last few years and they are paying the price at the moment, with changes constantly happening in the technical team. A club like Chiefs should not be hiring and firing coaches at the rate that they are at the moment. That's usually associated with smaller outfits, but Amakhosi have become that type of club, which tells a story about the people making decisions behind the scenes.
Amakhosi management did all in their power to get the right type of material in terms of players for the head coach this season, but the decisions they have made in the coaching department have not always been the correct one and, at some point, they need to raise their hands and admit that they are getting things wrong.
Molefi Ntseki, who was recently fired from his head coaching role, is one of the most genuine people you will find in the game. But, in my opinion, Chiefs should never have hired him in the first place. He should have stayed in the role he had occupied previously, and the club should have brought in someone who would have made big changes, including challenging management when it comes to the decisions that they make.
Chiefs need a coach that will walk into the office and tell them exactly what needs to happen for things to change, not the other way round. They need someone with a strong character who will make it clear that they need him more than he needs them. They need someone who is going to change the entire club and bring back the desire within the players to win silverware.
I always refer to how Pitso Mosimane walked into Mamelodi Sundowns in 2012 and made big changes. He commanded respect and they did things his way. Before his arrival, Sundowns were all over the place and were signing almost any player that was able to kick a ball. But a lot changed when Mosimane took charge and Sundowns have been a dominant force since then, taking things to new heights season after season.
The big question is, though, are Chiefs willing to spend? Because coaches like that often come with a big price, but they are often worth it because of the difference they can make in the long-term. The rebuilding project at Chiefs is not a small one and it should not be taken lightly, especially by management.
They have a bit of time now to look for someone to take charge of the team. This will be an important period for the big bosses at Naturena to show that they can make the right decisions for the club, or else they will forever be hiring and firing coaches and going for many seasons without a trophy in the cabinet.
