There has been a lot of talk about where Andile Jali will play next season and this week's Friday debate questions whether the experienced midfielder would be good for Kaizer Chiefs in the dressing room and on the field, as he has been linked with the club in recent time.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder is set to leave Sundowns when his contract ends in June and the Siya crew understands that he has already been in talks with different teams over the possibility of joining them. Some Amakhosi supporters, particularly on social media, have expressed a desire to have Jali on board next season to bolster the midfield and give them an extra boost in trying to challenge for the title. Soccer Laduma spoke to former players and supporters of the club to find out if Jali would be good for Chiefs and it seems like they are all in agreement.
'Experience is never a bad thing'
Shaun Permall - former Chiefs striker
I think they need a little bit more experience in the team. Experience is never a bad thing. In terms of his off the field antics, I don't think it would be a problem on the field. I don't think it would be a bad thing for him to go to Chiefs. I think Chiefs need a lot of intervention there. Maybe a chance of scenery will be good for him. You look at the people who are in charge at Chiefs. Being at Chiefs changes you and the amount of respect required by Kaizer Motaung and the whole country gives him is unreal. Maybe that would be a factor in him resurrecting himself.
'There is no one you can compare him with'
Robson Muchichwa - former Chiefs left back
For me, there are a few players from Sundowns who would not fit in at Chiefs. I feel a lot of the players who are at Sundowns can fit in at Chiefs because Sundowns has got a lot of quality players. I think that would be the best signing for Chiefs if they were to do it because he is a quality and he comes in with experience from playing in the Champions League and overseas as well. We need some quality in the team at Chiefs and I think he is someone who can bring something special. We don't have a person like him in the team. There is no one you can compare him with in that Chiefs team. It would be a good move if they were to bring him on board.
'I think we've had a void'
Thulani Nombali - Chiefs supporter
AJ is a top midfielder. We have been struggling to control games, especially in the midfield, and to control the tempo. I think the experience of AJ can help us in that regard, helping us control the tempo and to build up from the back. He can help us with the aggression in midfield in terms of winning the ball back. He is a leader and we've seen that. He's got the experience and he is extremely comfortable on the ball. He can add so much value in terms of helping the team. I think we've had a void in that midfield and our midfielders are almost similar in terms of the positions they look to occupy. We don't really have someone who can control the game for us and who is maybe who is happy to sit deep, especially during build-up or when we need to win the ball back. AJ can have his shortcomings, but he is a top footballer.
