FRIDAY DEBATE: Is Ntseki Right For Chiefs?

FRIDAY DEBATE: Is Ntseki Right For Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs have a big season ahead of them with new coach Molefi Ntseki at the helm and this week's Friday Debate questions whether the former junior international coach is the right man for the job.

Ntseki has the task of leading Amakhosi to success following a run of eight years without a major title in the cabinet, but does he have what it takes to end the misery suffered by the club's supporters? Three individuals have their say on whether he is the right man for the job, or if he should simply just be given a chance first before being judged.

Thulani Nombali - Chiefs supporter

I was not fine about the announcement because, like Lucas (Radebe), said, the club could have done better. I've always maintained that Kaizer Chiefs needs a coach who has a certain personality. I want to say someone who is a bit more aggressive and arrogant. I am not even talking about track record, but that's also important. We need to know this is how the team plays and this is what you have achieved. So, I am not sure about the coach. We go into the new season not knowing how we are going to play because we are not sure what the approach is. Even though we watched him with Bafana Bafana, I was not a fan. So, he coaches Kaizer Chiefs and I support Kaizer Chiefs. I'll support, but I am not hoping for much. I hope he is going to feed me with a lot of humble pie. He is just not fit enough and that's my view. He is just Mangethe (Arthur Zwane) 2.0. It's basically the same guy we had last season that I was not supporting. That's just my view.

Dikgang Mabalane - football analyst

This is one coach who has been around and I don't think he has been around long enough to know much about him, except for development levels and Bafana Bafana as well, and behind the scenes like the technical team. For me, he still needs to be tested and should be given time. I think he deserves an opportunity, because all we know is him being more technical. So, he needs to be given an opportunity as the front man and this is a big opportunity for him at Chiefs. He needs the opportunity and then we can judge him. Whether he is good or not, I don't think I have enough information to really judge him. It would be unfair for me to say anything before he is given an opportunity to be the head coach. It's going to be a challenge for him because he comes at a time where Chiefs are desperate, so to speak, for results and for change. It's long overdue. They have not been the Chiefs that we know, so he comes at a time when there will definitely be pressure, especially after Arthur Zwane, someone who people felt would bring change. There will be people who don't approve, but who are we? With his qualifications, he needs to be given this opportunity to show what he can. He is a senior scholar of our football. He has been a student of the game for a long time, so why shouldn't he get an opportunity?

Lerato Manzini - former Bloemfontein Celtic striker

For me, he is one of the best coaches we have in South Africa and he is a highly qualified. I think it was a great decision for Chiefs to appoint Molefi Ntseki and given the right support, I think he is going to do wonders. He has done a lot in the country, but it's just that a lot of people don't know him. A lot of people think he is a stranger to football or pressure situations. Coach Molefi is a great coach and he is vocal and I think he is a sleeping giant. He is going to prove a lot of people wrong. I know that he has done a lot and he is still doing well. Given much love and support at Chiefs, he will do well. I thank God that he has been given an opportunity to coach a team like Kaizer Chiefs. A lot of people are doubting his ability, but there are those who know his quality and I am one of them. I think they won't regret the decision because, like I said, he is a sleeping giant.
