Legend's Financial Recon: Stanton Lewis

Legend's Financial Recon: Stanton Lewis

Who The Player Is:

Stanton Lewis burst onto the scenes as a teenage striking sensation having come through the development of Ajax Cape Town. His prodigious talent saw him snapped up by Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam although his time in the Netherlands was cut short by injury. He revived his career with moves to Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, Golden Arrows and Chippa United, although recurring injuries saw him prematurely retire from the game in 2013.

My First pay cheque sign on fee:

My first pay cheque came in 2005 when I signed for Ajax Cape Town (Now Cape Town Spurs) I was paid R1500. I don't know if there was a sign-on fee involved, that was all handled by the agent.

My Sponsor deals requests:

I did receive an offer from Adidas when I signed for Ajax Amsterdam, but I chose Nike and I enjoyed a 14-year relationship with the brand. To this day, I enjoy a healthy relationship with the people at Nike.

My biggest bonus:

My biggest bonus ever was at Kaizer Chiefs. I think it was about R60 000 at the time. How it worked was that you received a bonus after a certain number of games won and I think that time we managed to win four games in a row.

Was I ever dooped with money/ a deal:

I wouldn't say I was dooped per se, although I would say I've done some bad business in that I was convinced to buy into a business, where I was promised the amount that was initially needed. Needless to say I never got my money back.

My most expensive car:

My most expensive car is between my BMW X6 and my BMW M5. I think the M5 was the most expensive, however, as it cost me just over R1 million.

My clothing:

The most expensive piece of clothing I ever bought has to be my D-Squared jacket, which I purchased in Amsterdam. It was a winter essential, a puffer jacket with fox fur. At the current exchange rate it retails for R32 000. I still have it to this day!

My expensive date:

It has to be my trip to Cape Town with then my then girlfriend who is now my wife. I think if you include all the flights, accommodation and everything, the entire trip must have cost around R80 000.

My biggest bar bill:

Funny enough I still have the slip from that night, haha. We went to a night club in Sandton in December last year. I had bottles of Veuve Cliquot, an Ace of Spades, there were beers and ciders involved. I spent R42 000 that night.
