The story
Former Richards Bay frontman Yanela Mbuthuma got his first taste of action as a Buccaneer on the club's recently concluded pre-season tour of Spain.
The 23-year-old is set to compete for a place in Abdeslam Ouaddou's starting 11 with the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa, and Boitumelo Radiopane, with the young Bafana Bafana striker facing a tough task in earning regular minutes.
Mbuthuma, who signed a five-year contract with the Soweto giants, spoke about his major move to SuperSport's Thomas Mlambo.
When asked about the first person he told about completing a move to Pirates, Mbuthuma revealed that he told his grandmother.
"The first person I spoke to about moving to Pirates was my grandmother. She's the one I lived with, so I had to tell her first. When I spoke to her, I told her that I had great news to share and mentioned that I'll be playing on a big stage for a major team.
"When I told her that I'll be playing for Orlando Pirates, she was very happy," shared Mbuthuma in his chat with Mlambo, who accompanied Bucs on tour with SuperSportBet.
Mbuthuma also shared how things are going for him at the club so far, sharing nothing but positive feedback.
"So far, at the Buccaneers, it's all good. Everything is right, I'm well-treated here, and I have no complaints," said Mbuthuma.
The lanky centre-forward, who also revealed that he played as a goalkeeper growing up, stated that supporters can expect plenty of hard work from him next season.
