The story

Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder Themba Zwane reached a significant milestone during a 5-0 win over Congo Brazzaville in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Friday night.

Hugo Broos' troops took a major step toward qualifying for the 2025 AFCON with their drubbing of Congo, moved level with Uganda on seven points at the top of Group K.

The ever consistent "Shikabala" put on a sparkling showing for the over 40-thousand-strong support in Gqeberha, and received plenty of post-match plaudits from the South African Football Association (SAFA) and his teammates.

Captain Ronwen Williams and Zwane are the longest-serving players in the current Bafana squad, with both making their debuts in 2014.

Although "Mshishi" was not initially involved in Hugo Broos' squads in 2021, he earned his place the following year and has played a major role in Bafana's dynamic attack.

Out of his 12 international goals, eight of them have come in the last two years under the tutelage of the Belgian mentor.

Social media was abuzz with praise for the 35-year-old after Bafana's mammoth win. Supports shared clips of Zwane working his magic in the middle of the park, highlighting his importance to the men's national team set up.
