The story
As Masandawana's teenage sensation, Siyabonga Mabena, prepares to showcase his talent in the FIFA Club World Cup in the US, the baller spoke on dealing with the spotlight as one of SA's brightest prospects.
Mabena joined the rest of Sundowns' 23-man squad and coaches as they jetted off to their training base in Florida on Sunday afternoon.
Sundowns find themselves in Group F at the Club World Cup, alongside Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense. They will begin their campaign against Ulsan on Wednesday, 18 June.
With the lights set to be extra bright at the new look Club World Cup, Mabena will be eager to show the world why he's one of Mzansi’s highly touted teenage talents.
In his chat with UK publication Soccer Bible, Mabena explained why it’s important for him to stay grounded as his journey is only just beginning.
"It's a good feeling — but I try not to let it distract me. I keep my focus where it needs to be. This is just the beginning, and I know I've got a lot to prove. I remind myself daily: stay grounded, stay locked in," he told Soccer Bible's Daniel Jones after featuring in adidas' Road To Glory pack campaign.
