The story
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Mpho Makola, details the struggles he’s encountered in recent years as a footballer.
Makola touches on parting ways with both Cape Town City and Polokwane City in his interview with Lerato Phago on the SwitchOn Network Podcast.
The 38-year-old decided to call time on his professional football career in 2024, having last represented Rise & Shine.
Makola had a commendable career, especially during his time at Orlando Pirates, where he made 178 appearances, scored 21 goals, and provided 28 assists.
He also played for Cape Town City and Free State Stars. Additionally, he earned 11 caps for Bafana Bafana, scoring two goals for the national team.
On the aforementioned podcast, he speaks on how not attending an SA20 cricket match with his CT City teammates and coaches signalled the beginning of the end for him in the Mother City.
Makola also laid bare his complicated contract situation at PLK City, revealing how he was once offered a deal that would’ve only seen him getting paid per match appearance.
