The story
PUMA has unveiled the much-anticipated Home and Away kits for Portugal, Switzerland and Iceland ahead of the women's European Championships in Switzerland this summer.
These stunning kits, which are available in Authentic and Replica versions, worn by the players and made for the fans, respectively, are already on sale on PUMA’s website, and judging by these designs, football jersey fanatics have a lot to be excited about with this release.
In a press release, PUMA broke down Portugal, Iceland and hosts Switzerland's kits for the Euros, going into great detail on the meaning behind the unreal designs.
Portugal
For Portugal, PUMA uses a lovely quote, 'por amor à casimola' which translates to 'for the love of the jersey', representing the players playing their hearts out for the national team, ensuring that they and fans don a kit that's worthy of Portuguese pride, which is what the bespoke women's team designs does.
The kit draws inspiration from the Quinas, a symbol found on both the Portugal coat of arms and team emblem, and celebrates Portugal's legacy and future.
The staple Portuguese national team colours of red and green in the Home kits past are given a fresh look, ensuring history is set to be made, not just talked about, while the Away kit brings through bold colours and futuristic graphics, referencing the intersection of art, technology and football found in modern-day Portugal.
Iceland
Icelandic women's football has come a long way since the team that qualified for a major tournament back in 2009, 'Stelpurnar Okkar' or 'our girls', will now be competing in their fifth major tournament straight this July.
The Home kit is inspired by the flow of the glaciers of Iceland, with the Away kit channelling the fluid movement of the famous northern lights.
The squad will look to carry the power and beauty of their country and kit, with hopes of translating it into their playing style.
Switzerland
For the Swiss, nothing will be sweeter than victory on home turf, and they'll be striving for glory as the hosts of this year's tournament.
With the home crowd behind them, the Switzerland team want kits that reflect the excellence and dominance. The women's team kits embody this spirit.
The Home kit, designed specifically for the women's team, is inspired by traditional Swiss textile monograms while maintaining the primary red colour of the national flag.
The Away kit pays homage to the Jungfraujoch railway station in the iconic Swiss Alps, which is renowned as the highest in Europe, featuring a bright white colour complemented by a mountainous design.
