The story
Former Cape Town City striker, Khanyisa Mayo opened his account for Algerian club, CR Belouizdad in their CAF Champions League opener in Algiers on Tuesday.
Mayo was introduced into the encounter just after the half-hour mark and pulled one back for the hosts in the 66th minute from close range.
In quotes shared by his agency, QT Sports ran by major Mzansi agent Basia Michaels, Mayo expressed that he can't get over the feeling of scoring his first goal in North Africa.
"I just can't get over that feeling of my first goal for the club. It's [a] memory that won't be easily forgotten but also, it was an opener of many more goals to come," stated the 26-year-old.
The 2024/25 season has been a bit of struggle for Mayo's side, who currently languish in 12th place in Algeria's Ligue Professionnelle 1, with the forward slowly settling into life in North Africa.
"The game [vs Pirates] on its own was motivation to me because it was against one of the biggest clubs in South Africa and played against familiar faces," added Mayo, reflecting on his first CRB goal by adding:
"I had to tell myself that I just have to be ready when I'm called upon and I'll do everything I can to help my team get maximum points."
