The story
Kenya's President, William Ruto, hosted Head Coach Benni McCarthy, his technical team and the Harambee Stars players at the Kenyan State House on Monday.
This comes after Kenya co-hosted the recent CHAN tournament, won by Morocco, alongside its East African neighbours, Tanzania and Uganda, and it was a campaign that captured the nation's imagination.
Benni's troops faced a challenging group but managed to secure the top position in Group A, finishing with 10 points from three wins and one draw.
In the quarter-finals, Kenya experienced heartbreak against the eventual finalists, Madagascar. The team led 1-0 for most of the match but conceded a late equaliser and ultimately lost in a penalty shootout.
Although their journey ended sooner than hoped, the team's spirited performances and the enthusiastic support from fans made this CHAN one of Kenya's most memorable football experiences.
Benni took to Instagram to thank President Ruto for inviting his team to the State House, with the head of state's IG page also sharing highlights from the visit.
