The story

Mamelodi Sundowns left an everlasting mark on young fan Aphiwe Mahlangu. The passionate Sundowns supporter cried his lungs out when the Brazilians lost to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

Masandawana suffered a come-from-behind 2-1 defeat at home to the Glamour Boys in early April, leaving the club with the Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League left to contest this season.

Aphiwe went viral on TikTok for his emotional reaction to Sundowns crashing out of the Nedbank Cup, with the video of what appears to be his mother, reassuring him that the next time he watches Sundowns, they will come out victorious.

To help the child forget Sundowns' loss to Amakhosi, the club invited him to their match away to Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium on Saturday evening.

Goals from Western Cape natives, Tashreeq Matthews and Iqraam Rayners, were enough to hand Downs all three points, another step closer to the Betway Premiership title. After the win, Aphiwe joined the players in celebrating the win and sat on coach Miguel Cardoso's lap during the post-match press conference.

"I'm out of words, I don't even know what to say right now, but I am very grateful because this is an opportunity that no other child would get, so I appreciate what the coach did for Phiwe because when Sundowns lost to Chiefs, he was devastated, he couldn't even eat.

"But today, he has a smile on his face. He managed to meet all the players and the coach, so he will sleep peacefully," said Aphiwe's parent in a clip shared by Downs.
