The story

With the ever burgeoning relationship between fashion and football, more players, current and retired are taking the risk of actively participating in the industry.

Football and fashion's relationship has always been symbiotic but there are certain figures in the game who embrace the cross over of the two industries more than others.

David Beckham, a man who is almost as much of a style icon as he is a football legend, is arguably one of the first pioneers of footballers embracing their own style and the fashion world as a whole.

The former England captain will partner with Hugo Boss for a design collection. The German fashion giant Hugo Boss has signed a multi-year deal with Beckham, with the collaboration between the two said to be a first of its kind in menswear.

This partnership will feature capsule and seasonal collections designed by Beckham, with the first range launching in spring/summer 25. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder will also appear in the brand's global campaign this autumn/winter season.

Sticking to the European football/fashion scene, Héctor Bellerín has launched his own brand, Gospel Estudios, a fresh sustainable clothing brand he's been diligently crafting.

Inspired by his Spanish roots, there former Arsenal defender wants Gospel Estudios embodies a 'not-ready-to-wear' ethos, reflecting Bellerín's passion for both style and sustainability.

As a vocal advocate for climate change, the Real Betis star merges his fashion flair with environmental consciousness, creating a made-to-order, slow fashion label that resonates with modern consumers.

In Europe, Bellerín joins a long lineage of footballers with clothing brands, with the likes of Memphis Depay, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Jesse Lingard, Mesut Özil, and of course, David Beckham and Lionel Messi among many others.

Locally, the likes of Willard Katsande and George Lebese run their own streetwear brands with the stylish Keagan Buchanan, set to launch his Nine One brand this year.

Katsande launched Boss Ya Mboka clothing back in 2021, an affordable streetwear brand that steadily releases new items including large puffer jackets, colourful hoodies, and t-shirts, all consisting of the Boss Ya Mboka logo.

Lebese's Assets Clothing perfectly mirrors his trendy personal style and firmly got the ball rolling last year by releasing his first range of box-shaped t-shirts.

The former Glamour Boys has since released a range of sunglasses, caps and bucket hats, with logo hoodies on the way.
