The story
The new Betway Premiership trophy was officially unveiled as Mamelodi Sundowns capped off the 2024/25 season by claiming their eighth consecutive league title.
Masandawana secured a 2-0 victory over Magesi on Sunday, with Lucas Ribeiro Costa netting both goals in the first half.
Following the match, the Premier Soccer League revealed the newly designed trophy for the inaugural Betway Premiership campaign. The striking piece was created and presented by renowned artist Nelson Makamo.
It's been a long journey to unveiling this trophy, as the PSL announced that they'd commissioned Makamo to design it back in November, with the contemporary artist being tasked with the unenviable task of putting together the league's forever trophy.
On social media, the unique trophy design has received some mixed reviews from supporters, with some appreciating the artistic value of the piece of silverware, while others slated Makamo's avant-garde effort.
