The story
Antonio van Wyk seems to be settling in well at his new club, SV Ried, who currently find themselves second in the Austrian second tier standings.
The 22-year-old has featured in five league games since making the switch from the Cape Winelands to the snowy upper Austrian region of Ried im Innkreis.
Speaking to his club's media team prior to their 1-0 win over fellow promotion hopefuls, Erste Liga rivals First Vienna, van Wyk detailed how he's finding life in Austria and at SV Ried.
"Everyone is very friendly to me. I have already made friends, the camaraderie is great. And the club is also really very professional," shared the ex-Stellies star, who also admitted to be struggling with the Austrian conditions.
"The only thing I still have to get used to is the weather. In South Africa we never have less than 14 degrees, here we recently had 0 degrees.
"I could hardly feel my feet during the match. But we also train in this weather and I am coping better and better with it," said van Wyk.
With the under-23 South African international hitting the ground running by earning some game time early on, he's eager to build on his two assists so far with some goals.
"Football here in Austria is a little different to that in South Africa. Here, I would say technique and physical effort are equally important.
"In South Africa, football is a little more technical. I myself am gaining more confidence from game to game and now I want to convert that into goals," concluded van Wyk.
