The Brazilian was a standout performer for Masandawana during their short-lived Club World Cup stint where they were eliminated in the group stages.
Sundowns had a chance to qualify for the last 16 by beating Brazilian side Fluminense in their final group stage game, but could only manage a 0-0 draw to finish third behind the Brazilians.
Ribeiro Costa made an honest admission prior to Sundowns' game against the Tricolor where he admitted he had always been a lifelong fan of Palmeiras.
"You know that we, players, support the team we play for, but I have always supported Palmeiras," Ribeiro Costa told Terra.com.
"I've always been a big fan because of my father. He loves Palmeiras a lot and has always made me follow him since I was little," he added. "But we, professional players, have always loved the club we are playing for, too."
Ribeiro's childhood team remain in the hunt for Club World Cup glory as the tournament enters the quarter-final stage. The Green and White are one of two Brazilian sides left in the competition, along with Sundowns' group stage opponents Fluminense, and will face English giants Chelsea.
