Returning PSL stars such as Bongani Zungu at Mamelodi Sundowns and Keagan Dolly at Kaizer Chiefs in recent years have all been criticized for not sticking it out in Europe.
There have been also suggestions in some quarters that tracking back to the home comforts of the DStv Premiership after making headway overseas is a mark of failure, especially at the peak of a particular career.
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho, who recently signed with Cape Town City, has had to face similar critics.

Gordinho left Bidvest Wits in 2020 after the club sold their status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and had an opportunity to further his career in Denmark, for Superligaen side Viborg.
The 28-year old had a two-year stint at the Danish top-flight side before he moved to second-tier outfit HB Koge in the same country in July this year.
However, as reported by the Siya crew, the Chiefs academy graduate cut his stay short at Koge and had been training with the Citizens during the FIFA World Cup break.
Gordinho has given a perspective on South African footballers, who at times make a decision to return home and abandon pursuing a career overseas.
"I think it's about the opportunity for your career. If you can see where you are in certain situation it's not got gonna be beneficial and you don't see an outcome after that, you obviously have to make the best decision," Gordinho said on Metro FM Sports.
"You know, at the end of the day we're all footballers, our careers are all gonna end eventually and you have to make the best of it while it lasts.
"You have to look at the perspective of everything, you have to say to yourself, okay, maybe I'm going to South Africa and in South Africa you might be more comfortable and excel better," he said.

"Because you have your team around you, your family, things like that. There's a lot of aspects that make you perform well every week and giving you that performance level you know," he added.
Gordinho, who was announced at the Citizens on a three-year contract, will be eligible to play from 1 January next year.
