According to Siya sources, Cape Town City have joined the race for striker Amadou Soukouna alongside another DStv Premiership rival.
The French-born attacker will see his contract at Maritzburg United expire on June 30 and it's expected that he will not be staying with the Team of Choice.
Reports have already linked Soukouna with a potential move to KwaZulu-Natal rivals AmaZulu FC given that the player is in a position to sign a pre-contract, but only effective from July 1.
But insiders close to the forward have suggested Soukouna has not yet put pen to paper.
City have expressed an interest, Soccer Laduma has established, and if they move swiftly, they can tie the player down to a deal. Soukouna does still have the responsibility to try help Maritzburg avoid relegation as they head into the play-offs and the fight to keep their Premiership status in a round-robin against Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars.
The 30-year-old joined the Team of Choice two seasons ago from Israel and was a key player this season, scoring eight goals in 25 league matches. But Soukouna is expected to depart.
City coach Eric Tinkler hinted to the media following their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium last weekend that their signings were already concluded, but did not reveal the names of the future arrivals. The former Bafana Bafana midfielder, however, did confirm the club have exhausted their foreign quota.
