The only hope left for Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates to participate in CAF club continental tournaments next season, is for them to clinch the CAF Confederation Cup title.
Bucs' CBL and CAF dates In Conflict
Pirates played to a 2-2 draw against Ajax Cape Town in a league encounter and missed out on a third place finish as Bidvest Wits leap-frogged the Buccaneers to finish in that spot on the table. The Clever Boys won their last fixture of the season against Platinum Stars thus qualifying for a berth in next season's CAF Confed Cup.
Bucs needed all three points to solidify their third place spot heading into the final day of the league as a better goal difference favoured the Parktown-based club.
Now Pirates will have to win the Confed Cup which will qualify them to play in next season's CAF Champions League as the winners of the Confed Cup.
Menzi Masuku disppointed to miss out on victory
Pirates will travel to Guinea for their first leg play-off round against AS Kaloum Star on Friday, 15 May. Should they overcome the 12-time Guinean league champions, they will have a meeting with either CS Sfaxien or ASEC Mimosas.
