Davids On 2-0 Loss: It’s Only Half-Time

Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has claimed that the CAF Confederation Cup final is "far from over".

Simba went down 2-0 to Moroccan giants RS Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final but the South African tactician admitted his team was not out of the running, Tanzania's The Citizen reported.

"We're still in it," the ex-Orlando Pirates coach said.

"It's only halftime. It's a two-legged tie, and we have another 90 minutes in front of our home fans," Davids added.

The Cape Town native said his team had the right characters and determination to make a comeback and admitted his opponents had taken advantage of mistakes his team made, but promised the second leg would be different.

"We made two key mistakes that led to their goals, but apart from that, our overall performance was competitive," he said. "We had our moments and created chances."

The former Maritzburg United captain was impressed by the way his team limited RS Berkane's chances in the second half of the first leg.

"We managed to control large parts of the second half, which gives us belief," Davids said.

He continued: "We know the task ahead is not easy, but Simba has come back from difficult situations before."

The head coach reaffirmed his team would be up for the challenge and asked his players to remain calm during their preparations for the return leg.

"We must believe, and we do," he said.

"Football is about moments and we aim to create those special moments. The players know what is at stake, and they are ready to fight until the last minute," he concluded.
