Ajax Cape Town Wants CAF Away Games To Be Televised

After returning from a successful trip to Sagrada Esperanca in Angola for the CAF Confederation Cup, Ajax Cape Town want broadcasters to get the TV rights for the games.

The Urban Warriors picked up two vital away goals in Dundu this past weekend as they beat Esperanca 2-1 in their own backyard, and now await the arrival of their opponents in the second leg later this month.

However, nobody in South Africa could watch Ajax's victory, nor that of Kaizer Chiefs or Bidvest Wits, while Mamelodi Sundowns' defeat to Chicken Inn was also not televised.

Now, as the four clubs prepare to secure a spot in the next round of fixtures, Ajax want the games to be televised.

A statement from the club on their website read, "This weekend saw some wonderful results for the South African teams who travelled into various parts of Africa to fly the South African flag, but it was a disappointing factor that none of the football supporters were able to witness the football on display.

"These CAF matches are of national importance and should really be treated as such, especially considering the vast amount of interest shown in it on social media. Football supporters from many different clubs all showed great interest in all of the teams who were competing on behalf of the nation, consequently we believe that more should be done to bring this type of matches to the South African public.

"The South African Football Association (SAFA) has been working closely with all of the clubs involved to help facilitate all arrangements for the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup. This would be an ideal time for their Media partner in the form of SABC to come on board and help bring our football into every South African household."

Meanwhile, the club's Marketing Director, Alexi Efstathiou, said, "The social media interest in our CAF game was a big eye opener showing just how much interest there is in this competition from the South African public. CAF allows for clubs to negotiate the television rights with broadcasters for these type of matches.

"We would love to bring all of our matches to our supporters who deserve to see not only Ajax, but all teams participating in these two prestigious competitions."
