CAF Champions League

Preliminary round, Second leg

Full Time: Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 St Michel United (Sundowns won 4-1 on aggregate)

Date: 28 February 2015

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

A brace from Surprise Moriri helped Mamelodi Sundowns to a 3-0 win over St Michel United in a CAF Champions League preliminary round, second leg match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

Combined with the 1-1 draw in the first leg the side from Tshwane moved into the first round proper of CAF Champions League 4-1 on aggregate.

The Brazilians started positively and won the penalty as early as the sixth minute after Mzikayise Mashaba was bundled over inside the box.

Moriri stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to hand his side a 1-0 lead on the night and a 2-1 aggregate lead following the 1-1 draw in the first leg a fortnight ago.

The home side continued to dominate proceedings after that and came bitterly close to doubling their lead in the 18th minute when Mame Niang let fly with a ferocious shot from the edge of the box, but it shaved the wrong side of the upright.

Niang was in the thick of the action again in the 34th minute, but this time while he found his shot on target, the St Michel keeper produced a great save to deny him.

Sundowns bossed the remainder of the half, but could not add to the scoreline before the break.

The Brazilians continued in the same fashion in the second half and seven minutes after the break they managed to grab their second goal when Moriri cleverly lobbed the keeper to make it 2-0 on the night, 3-1 on aggregate.

In the 58th minute substitute Katelgo Mashego nearly scored Sundowns' third with a long range shot that skimmed the wrong side of the post.

St Michel were virtual non-existent in attack, but they did manage a shot on goal in the 74th minute, but Kennedy Mweene was on hand to make a fantastic save to keep a clean sheet.

The result was put beyond doubt in the final minute of normal time as Mashego tapped home a low cross from Anthony Laffor on the right flank to make it 3-0 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate.
