Sasol Boost Women's Football

Key Sponsors for women's football as well as the South African Women's senior National team Banyana Banyana, Sasol, are satisfied with the investment they have contributed towards developing the game for women in the form of the Sasol league national Championships which are taking place in Port Elizabeth till Sunday, 14 December 2014.

According to Sasol Sponsorship Specialist, Dumisani Mbokane, one the main objectives of the tournament is to assist in identifying talent for the senior women's national team and so for the Championships have succeeded in doing so.

"The overriding objective has been the creation of a feeder for Banyana Banyana as we realised that there was no platform for the football association to do so. This has in turn done more than that, with many players identified during the Sasol promotional road shows having been recommended for Banyana Banyana, under-17 and under-20 women's teams," said Mbokane on the South African Football Assocation (SAFA) website.

Sasol have not just focused on football development but have also ensured that women are also empowered through these Championships in both education and towards their careers outside of football.

"Some players have gone on to get full or part bursaries to study at tertiary institutions around the country. That is true empowerment of women through sport, which is in line with the national development plan," added Mbokane.

The league has proved to be effective in the six years that Sasol has been involved in the women's game. This is visible in the number of current and former Banyana players at this year's national championships.
