This was the first time a South African side (men or women) advanced to the knockout stage of a World Cup and Ellis could not be any more proud of the side.
"Once again we create chances and we made errors in critical stages, but very proud of these players, they gave their all today and they know that they were in the game," Ellis said after the game, as per SuperSport TV.
"That's what we said, we were going to put up a fight. Towards the end of the second half, the legs ran out, tiredness and fatigue snuck in but we still tried to create a few opportunities but South Africa can be very proud of this team."
When asked if Banyana will be back to fight another day, Ellis replied, "Yes of course, when we came the first time (2019), we said we definitely want to comeback.
"I think this team has matured and grown, and one or two things here or there and would could be celebrating now but Goodluck to the Netherlands, but very proud of this team."
