Cyprus Women's Cup Report: Banyana Banyana 1-0 Belgium

Cyprus Women's Cup Report: Banyana Banyana 1-0 Belgium

Banyana Banyana claimed a 1-0 win over Belgium in their second Cyprus Women's Cup clash on Friday.

Head coach, Vera Pauw, made two changes from their opening match loss to Mexico on Tuesday, bringing in Jermaine Seoposenwe and Kelso Peskin.

And Seosposenwe's impact was immediate, as she struck the crossbar with a header as early as the third minute.

However, the Banyana broke the deadlock in the 21st minute courtesy of a well-taken finish from Seosposenwe, her first goal since returning to the side under Pauw.

The South Africans created a few more chances in the first half with Leandra Smeda going the closest in the 36th with an effort that sailed just wide of the mark.

Chances were hard to come by in the second half and Pauw's charges almost increased their advantage in the 76th minute but Amanda Dlamini's header was kept out by the woodwork.

Banyana managed to hold for the final quarter of an hour and claim their first win of the tournament.

They will now face the Czech Republic on Monday, 9 March at 14h30.
