Ellis Names Banyana Squad to face Australia

Banyana Banyana

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has named her squad to face Australia as they continue preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

After suffering back-to-back defeats to South American champions Brazil earlier this month, the African champions will now do battle against co-hosts of next year's World Cup.

The clash is scheduled to take place on October 8 in London, with the side facing more quality opponents ahead of the tournament.

"I said to them [the players] in the beginning the fact that you went to WAFCON does not mean you are going to the World Cup," Ellis said, as per SAFA.net.

"The World Cup is a different game and everybody has got to raise their hand. There are a lot of players that have shown form and we need to take a look at them as well to give them an opportunity to test themselves at the highest level."
