Banyana Banyana opened their Cyprus Women's Cup account with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico at the Tasos Marko Paralimni Stadium earlier today.

The match went into half-time deadlocked at 0-0 however the South African's conceded the first goal in the 53rd minute of the game with the Mexicans doubling their lead late in the second half to end the game at 2-0.
Vera Pauw and her charges will look to bounce back from the defeat in their two remaining group stage matches when they take on Belgium on Friday 6 March and conclude with a fixture against the Czech Republic on Monday, 9 March.
This is the eighth edition of the tournament and South Africa has made four appearances at the competition. They started participating in 2009, finishing in sixth place, and eighth the following year.
Banyana missed the 2011 event. In 2012 they ended in position 10 and 11th in 2013. They did not attend last year's edition of the competition.
