This comes after the senior national women's team were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana at Windhoek's Independence Stadium last night.

Banyana find themselves in a peculiar predicament which sees them in third spot of Group B with only a single point, after their 1-0 loss to Cameroon in their opening fixture last week Saturday.

"We and Ghana were both in the same situation and we remained in the same situation. We now need to win our respective final games to progress to the next stage. We started-off well in the first half but we struggled a bit in the second.  It was a tough match for us. Ghana stayed dangerous till the last minute, I can only compliment my players for their fighting spirit," commented Banyana Banyana coach, Vera Pauw, after the match.

Pauw's charges are still within a shot to qualify owing to the fact that Cameroon who are now leading Group B beat Ghana in their last fixture.

With one more match to be played to determine which two teams proceed to the semi-finals, Cameroon have six points, Algeria with three, while Banyana Banyana and Ghana are sitting with a point each.

Banyana will have to win their following fixture against Algeria with an impressive scoreline to move to four points and hope that Cameroon beat Ghana which will ensure Banyana qualify as the second team in the group.

"We are very relieved that we are still in the tournament, thanks to Cameroon for beating Algeria. We are still in the competition and have a chance to proceed to the next round," added Pauw in a media release from the South African Football Association.
