It is all systems go for Hugo Broos' men after coming to an agreement with SAFA's top brass in Stellenbosch on Sunday, 7 January.

The players, headed by captain Ronwen Williams, Percy Tau, Siyanda Xulu, Veli Mothwa and Themba Zwane signed on behalf of their compatriots, while SAFA was represented by President Dr Danny Jordaan, Vice President Bennett Bailey, CEO Lydia Monyepao and the HOD David Molwantwa.

According to President Jordaan, Bafana Bafana players will pocket a handsome R131 million in bonuses if they manage to win the competition – but could come home empty handed if they fail to do so.

"I'm here to make sure there is nothing outstanding and that everything is in place for them to focus on football, deliver on football and give us a kind of the performances that will make the nation to take a deep breath and say we have a team," he told SAFA's media department.

"We have to get the team to focus, we have to clear everything and if they win they get 7 million, if they lose they get nothing we want the team to focus and to perform. We have over a period of time to settle this thing and we don't want to waste time on discussing unnecessary stuff," he explained, and the amount in question is believed to be in US dollars.

CAF, meanwhile, has confirmed that there will be a 40% increase in the prize money for the 2023 winners of the competition, an event which is taking place in 2024.

The winners will receive $7m (±R131m), while the runners-up will get $4m (±R74.9m). Semi-finalists will receive $2.5m (±R46.8m), while teams who reach the last eight will pocket $1.3m (±R24.3m) each.
