Bafana Call Up Five Replacements

Bafana Call Up Five Replacements

Molefi Ntseki, Bafana coach

Molefi Ntseki has called up five players to take up the spots that became available after several who were in the original squad were withdrawn due to medical reasons, this being confirmed on the Bafana Bafana social media account.

Abbubaker Mobara and Thamsanqa Mkhize, the Cape Town City duo, tested positive for Covid-19 and have been ruled out.

Thibang Pete, Thulani Serero, Andile Jali and Reeve Frosler were also withdrawn as the national team went into camp yesterday to prepare for their back to back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome Principe.

Coach Ntseki has now had to rethink his strategy, and it was confirmed on the team's Twitter account on Monday afternoon that Mosa Lebusa, Vincent Pule, Thapelo Morena, Tshepo Rikhotso and Thabo Nodada were now drafted in.

The first leg will be played in Durban on Friday, with the second leg also hosted by South Africa four days later following an agreement between the two parties that the match that was supposed to have been an away fixture for Bafana will be in Port Elizabeth.

It is all due to the travel restrictions around the pandemic.

Bafana have played two matches so far – a defeat away to Ghana and a win at home against Sudan almost exactly a year ago.

They are second in Group C of the qualifiers.
